Inspired by the old music hall song and complete with 'a bicycle made for two', this garden represents a corner of Saint Michaelmas churchyard.

Berkshire College of Agriculture Courtyard GardenAlong the rear boundary a corner of the church is built of Dorset flint blocks with a Redwood Stone tracery window and flying buttresses to provide support. A herringbone brick path leads to the church. There is a tandem leaning against an old-fashioned bench set in a small area of grass with Bellis perennis growing in it.

Other than three specimen Taxus baccata, Humulus lupulus ‘Aureus’ on the fence and some Hedera helix, the planting consists entirely of members of the Asteraceae (daisy family) grading from deep yellow at the rear to white at the front. These range from 1m in height down to ground level.

Berkshire College of Agriculture Courtyard GardenIn addition to demonstrating how unity and balance can be achieved in a small area, the garden also illustrates the huge diversity within the daisy family. Many of the plants used are native and will help attract wildlife.

The garden has been designed and will be built as a student project, which provides excellent experience in team work, working to deadlines and costings.
