2007 is an exciting year for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
A new show sponsor, a new Garden Design Forum and bridal bouquet competition, new up-and-coming garden designers, layout improvements, more catering and bigger gardens than ever before - the 2007 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, sponsored by Marshalls, is set for a bumper year.
New interests
Marshalls, the new sponsor and leading manufacturer of superior and innovative hard-landscaping products, is also adding a new element into the show. For the first time a special talks area, The Garden Design Forum, will feature in the Great Pavilion. A range of speakers and experts will provide presentations, regarding good garden design, in the 120 seat auditorium.
For the first time a Bridal Bouquet Competition will take place in the Floristry section of the Floral Design Marquee. Professionals will create wedding designs of their choice, which will then be displayed at the world’s most famous flower show to provide brides to be with ideas for their wedding.
In 2007 there will be a new Roof Garden category in the Small Garden section of the show. Six roof gardens will feature in the Great Pavilion and offer inspiration for urbanites and highlight ways to help cities be greener
New layout
Another key development is the improvement to the layout. We have removed one of the big marquees from Main Avenue, which enables us to have large show gardens along nearly the whole length of the walkway. There will no longer be gardens at Rock Bank, which gets crowded due to space constraints, but instead more show-stopping, large gardens along Main Avenue and Royal Hospital Way (previously named Northern Road). It is easier for visitors to see and enjoy gardens along these walkways, which will be a spectacular vision. Rock Bank will be home to Sundries Exhibits and the Floral Design Marquee.
New & favourite designers
Once again the world’s best garden designers will be at Chelsea: Gold medallist and visitor favourite Chris Beardshaw has designed a garden that promises to be flamboyant, bountiful and floriferous; Andy Sturgeon’s design includes yew hedges, elements of surprise and a multitude of different views; Jinny Blom will create a warm, emotional garden; and Diarmuid Gavin is including tiles in a giant floral pattern in his garden.
Two leading designers will be creating their first show garden at Chelsea - Gabriella Pape and Isabelle Van Groeningen. Another talented first-time show garden designer, Robert Myers, who designed a superb themed garden last year, is creating an ornamental garden for Fortnum & Mason with rich sumptuous planting. Linda Bush’s garden will address concerns about global warming, melting glaciers and expanding deserts.
Another topical garden is being created for the new Chelsea show sponsor, Marshalls, by Scenic Blue. The Marshalls Sustainability Garden will show that you don’t need to sacrifice style to be an environmentally-aware domestic garden.
And more...
After all the excitement increased seating in the band-stand area will help provide respite for weary feet and there will also be additional catering facilities for a much needed cup of tea!
Visitors to the show will be offered a wealth of gardening ideas, with fabulous show gardens, inspirational small gardens and vibrant displays from more than 100 of the world’s best nurseries and specialist growers to enjoy. Those wishing to learn and discover some of the wonders of horticulture must see the Lifelong Learning exhibits within the Great Pavilion. Added to that, displays of desirable gardening products, the latest plant launches, floral arrangements, floristry and expert gardening advice, make the RHS Chelsea Flower Show the ultimate event for gardeners.
