New plant launches in the Great Pavilion

Many nurseries use the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to showcase their new plant launches for the year. Below are the ones we've been told about.

Jekka's Herb Farm

Abelmoschus esculentus ‘Red Sorat’ (okra)
Amaranthus tricolor ‘Red Army’ (amaranth)
Brassica junacea ‘Red Frills’ (mustard)
Jekka also introduces a new red seed collection, The Red’s in the Bed, which includes mustard 'Red Frills', red cos lettuce, red pak choi and orache ‘Scarlet Emperor’

Knoll Gardens

Panicum virgatum ‘Dewey Blue’ (left) A species from the coastal dunes in the USA. This drought-tolerant plant forms clumps of very blue foliage topped with airy panicles of flower in summer.
Muhlenbergia dumosa This grass boasts curving bamboo-like stems supporting billowing masses of fluffy, cloud-like tiny green foliage with soft yellow-white flowers.

 

Matthewman Sweet Peas

‘Betty Maiden’; named after BBC local personality Joe Maiden’s wife. This superb weatherproof variety is blue.
‘Promise’; an interesting and rare colour combination of pink and white.

Notcutts Garden Centres & Mattocks Roses

Some of the new plants displayed on the Notcutts exhibit.
Rosa 'The Wren'Physocarpus opulifolius 'Seward'Rosa 'The Wren' A floribunda with medium-sized, full, slightly old-English style soft pink blooms that are slightly fragranced; repeat flowering. This cultivar has glossy, mid-green leaves and excellent resistance to common diseases. Grows to 80cm (32in) tall. Named to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the formation of the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS).
Physocarpus opulifolius 'Seward' Attractive wine-coloured foliage is a feature of this plant, coupled with a dense, compact habit, drawing the best from both parents ('Nana' and 'Diabolo'). White button-like blooms appear in spring. Grows to 1.5 x 1.5m (5 x 5ft).
