This garden has been designed and built by staff and students at Pershore College. The designer, tutor Carol Smith, has used this as an opportunity for her students to get involved in designing a real garden.

The Pershore College Roof GardenThe design concept is based on a combination of mobile planted containers, with a linked watering system, that enables the owner to make maximum use of limited space. The containers can he moved around to give a variety of design options. As some of the planting gets past its best, those containers can be moved to less prominent parts of the garden and replaced with other planting combinations, giving the garden a new lease of life and creating further interest and enjoyment. The design can also be changed to suit particular needs such as relaxation, outdoor dining and entertaining.

The planting has been chosen to suit the harsh environment of a roof garden, and to provide interest through shape and texture. Height is developed through the use of a small multi-stemmed birch, bamboos and other plants chosen for their foliage and flower colour. The space is carpeted in an attractive polished stone, a water feature provides interest and sound, and a barbeque and mobile eating area complete the effect. This is a flexible and functional outdoor room.
