“ Bromeliads come in many different sizes from the huge big guzmania’s behind me and the aechmea’s down to little tiny tillansia’s. Unbeknown to most people they produce little pups on the back ends of the plants, which although the mother plant wont flower again the little pups will. It takes a little while maybe a few years before it does but when the plant is actually big enough to flower to accelerate the process you can use a top tip that the Victorians used to do. Banana skins, a couple of old banana skins under a bell jar; when the plant is ripe it will send those flowers out. There is a gas called ethanol that’s released by the banana skin that accelerates the flower.”
