Interviews with the stars

Andy SturgeonAndy Sturgeon, designer of the Cancer Research Garden

“I always get asked what the trends in garden design are, and I think this year there is a trend for subdued colours and lot of green. I always think about texture and foliage first anyway when I’m designing, so in this garden I started with tree ferns and so the design needed to be quite restrained.”

“I’m stunned by Robert Myers garden, the Cadogan Garden. The thing about gardens is that you design them for the client. My brief for this garden was to celebrate progress. There are four pools starting small and getting bigger advancing towards the front of the garden. Concentric ripples are formed on the pools and dance through the garden, moving progressively forward. There’s a thought wall made from aluminium bubbles that represents ideas. I’ve used a lot of symbolism in the garden.
