“This is my 16th Chelsea and I think I am the only certified organic exhibitor here, which is really very sad. If I get a Gold Medal this year it will be my 60th RHS Gold Medal, which for the organic, eco- and environmentally-friendly movements is simply wonderful. It can be done. I just wish the Soil Association would give encouragement to more horticultural growers. It is very good at supporting agricultural growers.

“Chelsea is the flagship of horticulture. If I can be consistent at the best show in the world, where are the others? I really want to get more organic growers here. It saddens me that there aren’t. For me it is still without doubt the best flower show in the world.

"The difference between a gold medal at another show and gaining one at Chelsea is huge. Everyone gives that extra 100% more for Chelsea. There really is a Chelsea magic and it’s still a huge honour to get that medal at Chelsea.”

This year Jekka’s emphasis is the myth and magic of herbs. The stand is packed full of fabulous feathery foliage, brushing aromatic leaves with other superbly-grown plants and flowers. “I’ve fulfilled my objective – they look good, they smell good and they do you good.”
