Carol Klein: Designer, Trevor Tooth, has evoked memories of travels around the world in this garden retreat. With unusual plants and architecture that richly recalls the landscape of journey’s past.
Trevor Tooth: Yeah, the whole garden’s got broken views and the way you journey through in that curvature it sort of leads you into different areas and the experiences are different at each concrete platform, I’d like to think. Well, it’s a real eclectic mix in the garden and it’s quite hard to do because you don’t want it to feel like a mess. A lot… a lot of designers go for just a few combinations so we’ve brought lots of things like Black Bamboos, Silver Birch then all the way across the Mediterranean to Lagerstroemias, which are a beautiful tree with a cinnamon bark. And then explosions of flowers, like we’ve got Knautia macedonicawhich is a lovely purple scarlet flower, yeah, a real mass of colour really.
