When anyone says to me, ‘what do we do with out changing climate?’ I always say, let’s look at the Mediterranean for our inspiration. There are lots of bulbs there that cope with the very dry kind of… things like my Eremurus, Foxtail lilies. They come up and flower spectacularly, provided you plant them on their own, not trying to come through a herbaceous border, they don’t like that. Bed on their own, perhaps mixed with Alliums, mulch them with gravel, well drained soil and you get a wonderful display.
