Carol Klein: Arabella Lennox-Boyd chose the purity of design found in Japanese gardens for her inspiration and combined it with an English planting tradition to create a visually unique garden.
Arabella Lennox-Boyd: I started thinking of my trip to Japan where I saw these marvellous Japanese gardens which conveyed such peace because of their sort of single mindedness and I thought well that’s what I want to do and how do I do it? I must flood the whole site with water and only have a sort of meandering path going across it leading it to a very small border at the end with interesting planting. Well first of all, the Yew Hedge is meant to draw the eye towards the end of the garden and the tree which is a Pterocarya fraxinifolia and is absolutely wonderful. The bamboo for its verticality and then the other very, very important plant is the, are the water lilies which criss-cross the path.
