Learn the general principles of sustainable gardening and their practical application in your home. Former Harlow Carr Kitchen Gardener, Amy, will give an illustrated talk, and then take you for a walk around the gardens highlighting sustainable gardening practices including the use of green manures, home composting and providing habitats for wildlife by creating meadows, log piles, winter shelter in the herbaceous border and choosing pollen-rich perennial plants. She will also discuss reducing the need for watering, pesticides and fertilisers by selecting the 'right plant for the right place' and will look at peat-free growing mediums.
