The following new plants are launched at the show.

Rosa Gift of Life = 'Horkestrel'Bill LeGrice Roses

Bill LeGrice Roses is launching Rosa Gift of Life = 'Horkestrel'. This climber, growing to 2.4-3m (8-10ft) in height, is strong, vigorous and healthy. The scented salmon/orange blooms are offset with glossy foliage. The rose is named in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the NHS Organ Donor Register, and is a tribute to the kindness and generosity of organ donors and their families. Sally Gunnell, the Olympic Gold Medallist, has very kindly agreed to launch this rose. "Organ transplants are a medical miracle, but they would not be possible without the generosity of the donors and their families", says Sally.

Downderry Nursery

The lavender specialists from Kent is introducing Lavandula angustifolia 'Royal Velvet' - the latest flowering L. angustifolia cultivar available often just coming into bloom when others have finished. The rich dark purple flowers are well fragranced for a dark-flowered lavender and set off by grey-green foliage. Height and spread: 60cm (24in) x 80cm (32in).

Lilium 'Northern Lights'H W Hyde & Son

The Berkshire nursery is launching the new Lilium longiflorum X Oriental hybrid ‘Northern Lights’, plus six unnamed hybrids from the world’s top breeder, Vletter den Haan.

'Northern Lights' has pure white trumpet-shaped flowers and very strong and long stems, giving it a simple classic look. It was bred in Japan by a lily enthusiast using native species, hence its parentage is different to hybrids bred in Europe. This will be the first time the plant has been exhibited outside of Japan.

 

Rosa Hot Chocolate = 'Wekpaltlez'C & K Jones

Rosa Hot Chocolate = 'Wekpaltlez' has been awarded the accolade Novelty Rose 2006 because of its unique colouring; it has also been voted an All American Rose Selection winner. The rusty-orange buds open to a warm velvet smoky-brown, which together with a nice perfume, glossy foliage and good vigour ensures this is a must-have rose for those with an eye for the unusual.

 

Mattocks Roses

Rosa Champagne Moment = 'Korvanaber'Rosa Champagne Moment = 'Korvanaber' is a floribunda, the Rose of the Year 2006 and making its public debut at the show. Its blooms, borne in clusters, are a strong apricot at their centre, fading to a delicate pale pink on the outer petals. Flowering profusely throughout the summer it has glossy dark green leaves, good disease resistance and a sweet fragrance; ‘Champagne Moment’ really is a winner.

 

Thorncroft Clematis Nursery

Thorncroft is introducing a number of new clematis and is exhibiting as part of the display celebrating Horticulture in Norfolk alongside other Norfolk specialists.

Clematis 'Night Veil' is of the very reliable viticella group, produces rich reddy-purple flowers that are semi-nodding and yielded freely on long flower stalks. Bred by Mr Iino of Japan, this clematis is quite disease resistant and good for beginners.

Clematis 'Jan Fopma' is a herbaceous non-clinging clematis from the Dutch breeder, Wim Snoeijer. It has wonderful glossy dark purply-red flowers that hang like bells on the 1.5m (5ft) long stems.

Clematis 'Stanislaus' is another herbaceous clematis, but from the heracleifolia group. It is similar to the well-known 'Praecox', but is much more manageable for the smaller garden. Also bred by Dutch breeder Wim Snoeijer.

Clematis 'Remembrance' produces raspberry red flowers with a textured surface from July to September, and grows to about 2.4m (8ft).

Winchester Growers Ltd

The custodians of the National Dahlia Collection are releasing a number of new dahlia cultivars.

Dahlia 'Little Matthew'The nursery is also re-introducing 'Little Matthew' - a cultivar thought lost. The relaunch will help raise funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation. Cuttings will be available from spring 2006.

 

Rosa Touching Lives = 'Lovangle'World of Roses

Rosa Touching Lives = 'Lovangle' is a floribunda with lovely blush yellow HT-shaped blooms. It has delicately scented flowers, bronze foliage and compact, bushy growth; it grows to around 85cm (34in). This rose will help raise funds for Action Medical Research, the UK’s most forward thinking charity. For more than 50 years it has been making medical breakthroughs; success stories include helping develop the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy and the hip replacement operation.

Rosa The Sobell Rose = 'Lovanotion'Rosa The Sobell Rose = 'Lovanotion' is a pink floribunda that has been named to raise funding for the Sobell House Hospice in Oxford. Growing to around 80cm (28in), this rose has a slight scent and is extremely healthy and robust. Sobell House offers psychological, social and spiritual care for those facing illness, death and bereavement. It seeks to contribute to the development of palliative care through education and research.
