For this year's show, World of Water and award-winning designer Pete Sims have created a garden to while away long summer days, for those moments when it is possible to steal away from today's hectic lifestyle. Pete has created a space within a larger garden where someone can enjoy the garden and their hobbies, while achieving a measure of peace in their busy lives.
A low bridge crosses a large pond to a small stone building, used as a retreat and to store the necessary equipment for its owner's chosen hobby - painting equipment perhaps, or a musical instrument. There is a seating area in front of the building, providing an ideal area to rest while enjoying solitude or when seeking inspiration. The planting is primarily marginal and moisture-loving perennials, with a selection of waterlilies and deep water marginals in the deeper areas of the pool. Although the hard landscaping in the garden is formal, an informal planting scheme of native and cultivated plants has been used to great effect.
