Nigel Boardman has designed a garden based on the average size of a town garden within in a new urban development. The garden has a contemporary look consisting of three connecting ovals, the first shape next to the house being finished in Pebbletext - an alternative to stone paving which has strong colours and a hard wearing surface. The middle oval is formed of railway sleepers, power-sanded smooth, with planted tram lines of chamomile and thyme to create a scented area as the visitor walks along the surface, and a low maintenance alternative to a lawn. The third area, used as a relaxing area, has a metal egg crate surface with under planting of ferns, hostas and grasses. A hammock hangs on one side with a large bubble stone water feature on the other side giving sounds and movement to the garden. The ‘jungle’ feel is created by the planting scheme of predominantly grasses, ferns, bamboo and perennials growns for colour and foliage.
The RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park (19-23 July)
Another jungle-inspired garden is appearing at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. BBC North West Tonight’s Classroom Jungle designed by Janine Crimmins has been put together for children aged between seven and 11 years of age.
