Follies come in many different shapes and sizes. Here, Cedar Nursery has created a garden around an oak folly, in the temple style. The open nature of the folly provides a framed view of the stream, as well as a focal point in its own right. Nestling in a thicket of birch, the folly provides a welcome retreat for afternoon tea or twilight conversation, sheltering guests from cool river breezes. The stream is edged by a stumpery that forms a chaotic sculpture reminiscent of giant teeth pulled long ago. Across the elegant lawn that sweeps down to the water’s edge is a viewing platform, which offers the best views of the garden.
