Downderry Nursery, Lavender Fields

Designer: Tim Sharples

Contractor: M J H

Fields of lavender are an increasingly common sight in the English landscape, reflecting the perennial popularity of this much-loved garden favourite. Downderry Nursery, RHS Gold Medal winners and recipients of the Best Floral Marquee Exhibit at the show in 2005, has recreated a mouth-watering miniature lavender landscape using 700 highly-prized and eminently versatile Lavandula x intermedia ‘Grosso’. Whether grown for its sheer beauty and fragrance, the distinctively sharp aroma of its oil, as a dried flower or for the gloriously refreshing flavour of the honey produced from it, this lavender is evocative of the long, hot days of an English summer.
