The Daily Mail Cottage Garden looks out on to a tranquil setting of rolling grounds leading down to a chalk stream. It is surrounded by a vegetable garden, grown both to look good and to provide wholesome, garden-fresh vegetables. To one side there is a large ornamental grass planting area, enhanced by stone mulch. Beyond this, the well-kept lawns lead to a gravel garden, with drought-resistant plants for colour and contrast. The stone pathways lead up around the cottage, past full borders, to a large paved area at the rear. This is a secluded place for relaxing and taking in the perfume of the planting. The design’s overall feel is of a well-tended and much-loved garden.
