Designed to resemble a typical London back garden, and featuring a range of drought-tolerant plants and other water-saving and eco-friendly ideas, the Mayor’s Sunshine Garden shows that you can have a beautiful garden while saving water.

Global warming means that water is a precious resource that we can no longer afford to take for granted. Londoners use 161-litres of water each per day, much more than is used in many other European cities. The Sunshine Garden demonstrates how easy it is to create an exciting garden without wasting water, and shows that a dry garden can be beautiful.

Designer Paul Stone has created this garden, which features a compost bin, chamomile lawn, a wormery, water butts, a living roof, an insect hotel, Mediterranean plants and drought-tolerant vegetables. The garden is created entirely from recycled or sustainable materials - the wildlife-friendly insect hotel is made from recycled London Gin bottles! The garden has been designed with all sizes of space in mind, so whether you have a large plot or a plant pot, these ideas are affordable and achievable.
