This garden is inspired by Oliver, Trevor Tooth’s one year-old baby boy, as well as Jake and Evie, new members of Rik Godfrey’s family who collaborated with Trevor on the design. The garden revolves around the theme of how life changes with the arrival of a new child into a family. The ripple effect this has on all members brings a new zest for life to the old, while the young experience a change in their journey where love is shared and multiplied. Leaving behind a simpler time in your life before the new arrival, the journey of life travels along paths leading you in different directions, which often bring you full circle.
Timber walls jutting onto the paths represent obstacles that you may meet along the way. Trees underplanted with lilies play with the idea of generations and regeneration. The ultimate destination is a haven surrounded by abundant and lush planting. This steel sphere ‘story den’ allows you time to look back on your journey through life. Raised off the ground you are enclosed and protected by a terraced amphitheatre that wraps around the space.
