According to a recent European survey, we are nurturing a couch potato generation. This garden aims to inspire people to get up and start gardening with particular attention to connecting children with real food and the natural environment. The garden will be a mini utopia of colour, cultivation, production, passion and relaxation encouraging activity, touch and interaction with the space - the opposite of passive television viewing!
The garden will feature unusual, edible and decorative plants from the Solananaceae family, including blue and red-fleshed potatoes, rainbow chillies, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines and the fabulous Solanum quitoense, which has never appeared at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show before.
The garden extends the limitations of the modern lifestyle and proves that using recycled and reclaimed materials can be visually dynamic. By focusing on a single family of plants, it highlights the vase diversity of nature, hopefully igniting a passionate curiosity to learn more about it.
