Designs in Green small gardenThis garden takes some of its inspiration from part of its title, halcyon, a word derived from Greek mythology and the kingfisher said to have the powers of charming the wind and waves into calm. The contrasting use of colour within the garden’s three walls, and the combined use of water and planting, is intended to calm and also to provide inspiration when needed. This interesting design has two tiers, a sunken pool and a raised seating area. The garden has been designed for a new build mews-style property, to a brief from a client who wanted a sense of privacy. The design is divided into two distinct areas - a minimalist area and a more traditional garden which is viewed from the house.
