This is a low-maintenance, walled courtyard garden. Its special feature is its moon gate, built from reclaimed bricks. Vertical features are important in the planting scheme as they link the ground to the sky. Architectural planting provides a strong visual contrast to the uniform shape of the moon gate. The greens, blues, mauves and greys create a feeling of coolness and harmony that is welcoming and restful. Ground cover plants are used to control weeds and assist with water retention. The walls are softened by the planting and the trees provide height and balance. Beyond the moon gate, the planting has been chosen for movement which is reflected in the mirror.
