This is a nostalgic small garden that could also be part of a larger garden. It is designed to reflect the light and beautiful but brief Scandinavian summer. It celebrates the season with a burst of hardy perennials, while box balls provide geometric structure all year round. The garden is a favourite spot for many Scandinavians to enjoy the warmth of the summer sunshine after a long, cold winter.
The cottage-style planting is delicate. The shapes and colours have been chosen to complement each other, and to complement the hard elements of the garden and the northern climate. The perennials and shrubs are fully hardy, apart from the tender houseplants in pots, which have been brought outside in early summer. True to the environmental ethos of Scandinavia, all materials are either from sustainable sources, reclaimed or second-hand.
