Partner Charities
Royal Horticultural Society
The Royal Horticultural Society, the UK's leading gardening charity, is committed to creating excellence in horticulture and promoting gardening.
The Gala Preview is invaluable in assisting the RHS to fulfil its charitable work, which ranges from providing advice and inspiration through to running education programmes and conducting research into plants and environmental issues affecting gardeners.
The RHS receives no government support and for every pound received from members' subscriptions, we need to raise more than twice as much again to fund our charitable work. We also rely on donations and sponsorship to supplement income from our garden operations, flower shows, shops and plant centres. Thank you for your support.

The National Autistic Society
Imagine that for just one day you were not able to communicate with those around you, through language, gestures, tone of voice or by facial expressions. Imagine the frustration, loneliness and isolation you would feel. Then try, if you can, to imagine that state lasting for the rest of your life. Imagine having autism.
Around 535,000 people have some form of autism in the UK – that’s around 1 in 110 people – so it is far from being the ‘rare’ condition we often hear about. Autism (including Asperger syndrome) is a spectrum condition meaning it occurs in varying degrees of severity. It affects every person in different ways but all people who have autism share difficulties with communication and making sense of the world around them.
The National Autistic Society (NAS) is the UK’s leading charity for all people with autism and their families and carers. It exists to champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and to raise awareness and understanding of the condition among professionals and the general public.
The NAS Hayes Independent Hospital
Money raised through the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show Charity Gala Preview 2006 will help develop the horticultural project at the NAS Hayes Hospital in Bristol.
The Hayes supports 12 people with Asperger syndrome who require an environment with enhanced security. The Hayes horticulture project has been running since April 2001 as a therapeutic service and plays an important role in the daily lives of the service users.
The project site has areas for the growth of salad, vegetable and fruit crops, and an orchard is also in development. All trainees are encouraged to enjoy and take an active part in all areas that are available, from sowing and harvesting to shrub and plant care and propagation.
In the spring and summer months, service users run a small shop which sells produce to the kitchen on site and members of staff. Throughout the colder months of the year, wooden planters and an array of different garden products are made.
The trainees gain an enormous amount of satisfaction from seeing the results of their hard work. Most of the work is undertaken in small groups and one to one sessions at present; however, looking forward, the project will be offered to people within Bristol and the surrounding areas who could benefit from horticulture as a vocational skill and/or as a therapeutic medium. The project also offers the opportunity for trainees to gain Open College Network pre-vocational qualifications in horticulture and related topics.
With the help of the RHS and visitors to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show Charity Gala Preview 2006, the NAS will extend the gardening project at The Hayes and continue to help vulnerable people with autism re-establish their lives.
