NCCPG Plant Heritage Marquee
Sponsored by the Royal Horticultural Society
National Council for Conservation of Plants and Gardens (NCCPG)
The NCCPG Plant Heritage Marquee provides a wonderful opportunity for gardeners to see a selection of the 'living plant libraries' - our National Plant Collections®.
The main exhibit demonstrates the diversity of the Rosaceae family, which stretches from the edible to the ornamental.
A second display illustrates the story of how plants and seeds from North America made their way from the woods and hills of Pennsylvania to the pleasure grounds of Painshill Park in Surrey in the 18th century. Plants and seeds were collected by John Bartram of Philadelphia, shipped to Peter Collinson in England and then sent to Charles Hamilton of Painshill Park. In 2006, the John Bartram Heritage Collection became the first NCCPG National Heritage Collection.
