Designed for a young couple living in a town house in the South East, The Homebase Garden of Reflections turns a modest outdoor area into an extra living space, embracing the Italian love of outdoor dining and good food with family and friends.

The source of inspiration for the garden is the famous 16th century Italian garden Villa Lante, built for the extravagant Cardinal Gambara. The conservatory's waterfall is representative of the "Fountain of the Flood", London Planes provide shade, the end pool is symbolic of the Quadrato and the table is reminiscent of the cardinal's table, where he held lavish feasts with wine chilled by the water.

Unlike the cardinal, who relocated a town and diverted a river for his garden, the couple are environmentally aware. Rainwater is collected and filtered from the house roof, and is used to irrigate the plants.

The colour scheme includes blues, purples, lime green and orange. Many of the plants have been chosen for their Italian connection, and some have been selected for their contrasting colour and shape, including fruit, vegetables and herbs deemed too valuable for the allotment.
