Rachel Ewer has created a garden for enjoyment. The inspiration for this garden comes from a large ceramic and resin ‘raku’ disk – in Japanese ra: ku means literally enjoyment. The garden features the large disk created by artist Peter Hayes which is sculpted as a water feature. Horizontal sail screens, by Kemp Sails, and glass ‘fish’ panels, by artist Andrea Owen, help create a sense of sanctuary and calm. A boules run offers opportunities for play. The planting is drought-tolerant and easy to care for to help the user relax when in the garden. The colour scheme follows a soft, muted palette of blues, greys, yellows and creams. Planting includes Alyssum maritimum, armeria, leucophyta, echiums, aeoniums and leptospermum. All of the plants have been grown organically.
Originally, Rachel Ewer worked in medicine as an intensive care nurse but after returning from a night shift one day she realised she needed to do something creative. Now Rachel says her life has changed completely with her garden design business, garden shop and all the hard, but fun, work that goes with it!
