The Climate Change Dome

Discover how climate change will affect gardening

The world’s climate seems to be changing – hardly a day goes by without us hearing something about the impact of climate change. There is little doubt that climate change will affect most of us in one way or another. It might be at work, it might be in our spare time but one thing is for sure – climate change is a complex subject that needs explanation and unravelling, and the Met Office is best placed to help.

One place where we can see climate change happening and begin to put it into context is in our gardens. Weather and climate experts from the Met Office, along with staff from RHS Garden Wisely, were available in the Climate Change Dome throughout the show to help you understand the facts and myths about weather and climate change, and how climate change may affect your garden and the world at large.

There were talks each day on climate change-related topics to bring the subject to life, with plenty of opportunity for questions. There was also the chance to discuss the nation’s favourite subject - the weather - and its effect on our gardens in the short term.

Within the Climate Change Zone, there were two show gardens and two small gardens designed with climate change in mind. The gardens are by Southend-on Sea Borough Council in partnership with Metal, Send a Cow, London Wildlife Trust and Fineline.
