"Back to the Future – Lessons from Africa for the Survival of the British Garden"

Send A CowBack to the Future

Designer: John Marshall
Contractors: John Marshall Small Gardens, Acorn Carpentry & Building Services

Send a Cow’s Back to the Future garden reflects UK life in 2058. Land costs and population growth have soared, world temperatures are rising and weather patterns have become unstable.

The need to drive down greenhouse gas emissions is now critical. Young families have returned to their land and looked to Africa for inspiration. The concept of grow-your-own has been taken to a new level. And all plants being cultivated have a purpose: providing a sustainable source of food, fodder or fuel, attracting bees and butterflies, or simply providing shade.

Ultimately, the 2058 British garden represents pioneering organic agriculture - using traditional gardening techniques updated with precious knowledge from Africa. At the show all the secrets of the Back to the Future garden will be revealed to visitors interested in growing bigger and better – while protecting their gardens from the unpredictable weather conditions of the future.
