Bursaries & Scholarships Introduction
The Master of Horticulture (RHS) is the Royal Horticultural Society’s most prestigious professional horticultural qualification. Academically, it is of degree equivalence, and is a recognised award under the terms of the Education Reform Act 1988. It is unique in attesting the holder’s professional horticultural knowledge, understanding and practical skills. Holders of the award may use the designation MHort (RHS) after their names.
The award of Master of Horticulture (RHS) is made following successful completion of the following eight modules:
- Horticulture and Research
- One module selected from:
- A Amenity Horticulture
- B Production Horticulture
- Operational Business Management
- Principles and Processes of World Horticulture
- One module selected from:
- A Gardens and Designed Landscapes
- B Urban Landscapes
- C Production Horticulture
- Strategic Management in Horticultural Business Environments
- Technical Competence Assessment
- Dissertation
The Master of Horticulture assessment process is rigorous and calls for a high standard of knowledge, experience, practical competence and proficiency. Assessments consist of traditional written papers, projects, critiques, practical assessments and a dissertation.
The Master of Horticulture award will be made only to candidates who, in addition to reaching pass standard within the prescribed modules, have spent a minimum of three years in acceptable full-time horticultural employment. The qualification normally takes three years of personal study to complete.
