Nomenclatural standard specimens and standard portfolios

A nomenclatural standard is a pressed specimen or illustration prepared and deposited in a recognised herbarium to demonstrate the diagnostic characteristics of a cultivar.

A Standard Portfolio includes the standard and all the information relevant to the cultivar.

Searching the database of nomenclatural standards

The database of nomenclatural standards allows you to search for information on specimens of nomenclatural standards. The concept of nomenclatural standards is of very recent introduction, so that for many cultivars, there is no entry. However, this is a rapidly expanding collection and the catalogue is updated frequently.

It is hoped that this site will eventually be linked with organisations elsewhere that also hold nomenclatural standards.
