Malvern Autumn Show 2008
29 September 2008
Show gardens at Malvern Autumn Show were good enough to eat this year, with a special new category for edible gardens and a new pavilion dedicated to growing your own food.
Lindsay Anglin, the 2008 winner of the Chris Beardshaw Mentoring Scholarship, won a gold medal with her edible garden, and all the six small show gardens were a great hit with the public, showing just how good food can look in your garden.
The From Plot to Pot marquee was busy throughout the show with demonstrations from Italian chefs Gennaro Contaldi, who taught Jamie Oliver how to cook, and Felice Tocchini - best known for his efforts to tempt children to eat sprouts by cooking them a sprout cake. New BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Toby Buckland also put in an appearance on Sunday.
The horticultural highlight of the show was the RHS Flower Show with spectacular floral displays from the nation’s top nurseries. Medwyns of Anglsey was awarded best exhibit in the Show.
Another favourite with the public was the harvest pavilion which hosted the Midland Vegetable Society Championships. Displays include vegetables, giant vegetables, fruit, carnations, gladiolus, dahlias, roses, alpines, sunflowers, chrysanthemums, cacti and succulents.
