The seasonal must-haves

Stripes or spots, spikes or soft. The RHS London Flower Shows are THE place to satisfy a passion for fashion and pick up more than just plants as some of the UK’s leading nurseries come together to show the best in horticulture, season by season.

With seven shows a year, from autumn through to spring, the RHS London Flower Shows are a magnet for anyone who wants to get ideas and expertise from some of the leading lights in horticulture. RHS advisors are on hand at every show to give help and advice on any gardening question, and with a selection of themed exhibits to inspire, each show can help you to tackle a gardening problem area, or just add seasonal colour to your garden.

Calendar dates

12 - 13 September 2006, Defensive Plants
A summer garden in the heart of London with fantastic displays of late summer plants. For those interested in plants with a bit of an edge, specialist growers will also be bringing plants that have become adept at defending themselves in their various habitats.

3 - 4 October 2006, Variegated Plants
A true harvest festival with displays of fruit and vegetables and a feast of autumn colour. There will also be displays of variegated plants - some with stripes, some with margins and some with blotches, these intriguing plants create a fantastic display.

10 - 11 November 2006, Winter Greenery
Whether it’s conifers, topiary, trees, hedging or berries, winter greenery is an important component of most gardens, and the show is a great opportunity to see these winter stars at their best. There will also be an exhibition of the winning entries from the RHS Photographic Competition 2006.

16 - 17 January 2007, Winter Fragrance
As the gardens outside are taking a break for the winter, the RHS Horticultural Halls will be filled with life, with displays of winter flowering plants and magnificent evergreens providing a sensory spectacle.

13 - 14 February 2007, The Romantic Garden
A perfect Valentine’s Day. Displays of early spring bulbs and winter colour to re-ignite a passion for plants as spring approaches.

17 - 18 March 2007, Mediterranean Plants
Bursting with colour, the spring flowering bulbs and plants create a horticultural haven. There will also be the hot colours of the Mediterranean, as some specialist growers bring a taste of the summer holiday to a winter climate.

3 - 4 April 2007, Wildlife Gardening
Without a doubt, the daffodils steal the show, but with the world around us waking up after a winter’s rest, specialist exhibitors will also be demonstrating how we can live and work with the creatures in our gardens.
