A
standby of the herbaceous border in high summer, Achillea
includes many easily-grown and reliable perennials. The introduction,
in recent years, of many new cultivars has prompted a resurgence
of interest in the group. In addition, there are numerous
excellent small species, often with fine foliage, suitable
for the rock garden or alpine house. Achillea
is a special research interest of the Head of Botany at Wisley.
RHS trials
A trial of Achillea species and cultivars suitable for the open border was concluded at Wisley in 1999.
