Among
the most popular of climbers, Clematis has much to
offer apart from the familiar large-flowered hybrids. The
qualities of the species are increasingly recognized, and
many are now becoming widely available. There are also non-climbing
species such as C. heracleifolia, suitable for the
herbaceous border.
Registration of cultivars
The RHS is the International Cultivar Registration Authority for the genus Clematis.
Registration of Clematis cultivar names
RHS trials
Trials of many plants are carried out at RHS gardens. The very best performers will be recommended for the Award of Garden Merit.
