Japanese anemones

Anemone x hybrida 'September Charm - Photograph copyright RHSThe beautiful Japanese anemones are greatly valued for their late flowering, bringing welcome colour in the garden into late autumn. Recent work at Wisley has clarified some long-standing nomenclatural problems.

RHS trials

A trial of Japanese anemones was concluded in 1997. A welcome spin-off from the Trial was an identification key to cultivars of Japanese anemone, available from the Trials department.

Hot water treatment of Anemone x hybrida

Japanese anemones are frequently infested by leaf and bud eelworm, and experimental work has been taking place at Wisley to assess the value of hot water treatment.
