Recent
years have seen the introduction of many new cultivars of
these attractive and free-flowering plants, derived from a
number of South African species.
RHS trials
A trial of Osteospermum
cultivars was completed in 1996. Out of 39 cultivars, 14 were
judged to merit the Award of Garden Merit, either as subjects
for summer bedding, or in the case of hardier sorts, for permanent
plantings. In addition, descriptions and an identification
key were prepared.
