About the RHS Seed Distribution Scheme

Collecting seed at WisleyApproximately 250,000 packets of seeds are distributed each year to RHS members worldwide, in response to more than 8,000 requests.

RHS gardens are committed to cultivating a wide range of plants to the highest standard, so that you can be assured of a good selection to choose from.

At RHS gardens throughout the year seed is gathered from more than 700 different plant varieties. The Seed Department at Wisley then dries, cleans and packs all the seeds ready for dispatch. Between January and April the packets of seed are dispatched by RHS staff and volunteers.

Access to this diversity of seeds from plants cultivated by experts is a great benefit for RHS members, and the Seed Distribution Scheme makes ordering seeds for your garden simple and straightforward.

You can apply for up to 20 packets of seed selected from the list. As only limited quantities of some seed is available, you can also list up to five alternative selections. Please note that only one packet of seed of any one number can be supplied. Eight collections are also available for selection, each collection contains five packets of seed. You can apply for up to four collections (20 packets).

Seed is generally collected from open-pollinated plants, so seed may not come true. Please also note that some seed is donated and is offered under the names provided by the donors.
