Virtual lettuce trial 2007
Join us in growing a selection of lettuce from our 2007 trial of cos and semi-cos lettuce. Follow the progress of this trial online from sowing in March to harvesting and judging in June.
Join in at home and grow three of the trial cultivars yourself. You can then let us know how you get on by reporting your findings, which will all help in the overall trial.

Cultivars to try at home
A miniature cos lettuce with deep red leaves from a young age. Can be used as baby leaves and as hearts. ‘Pandero’ is useful for small gardens or growing in containers and works well for successional sowing.
A semi-cos lettuce with unusual green leaves that are intricately speckled with splashes of red. With its unusual markings, ‘Freckles’ makes an excellent addition to salads.
‘Little Gem Pearl’ is a special selection of the ever popular ‘Little Gem’. Compact plants produce small hearts. This cultivar is perfect for growing in the garden or for growing in containers.
