- Week 1: Seed sowing
One week on from sowing our radish seeds and there is some movement!
Last week, after sowing, some of us covered our containers with a cloche or plastic (just as the trial has been covered with fleece). Interestingly - and as expected - those that were covered have started to germinate ahead of those left uncovered.
Val covered her pot with a clear plastic bag and has subsequently had the best germination rate.
Linda topped her ornamental pot with a propagator lid instead of plastic. Subsequently her seedlings are just starting to emerge.
Ali sowed two rows each of 'Rudi' and 'Mirabeau' in a growing-bag, leaving one uncovered and the other covered, there has been some germination in the covered row (photographed left uncovered). Ali has had to water her bag a couple of times over the last week as she found the compost had dried out.
Both Karen and Sue chose not to cover their pots and, surprise, surprise, there is no sign of germination above the soil level from their seeds just yet.
