School competition congratulations!

St Joseph's R.C. Junior School from Woodend in London are the proud winners of this year's Budding Gardeners "Garden Plot Growers" competition.  The prize for St Joseph's Junior School is £400 of Harrod Horticultural vouchers, helping the school gardening club to thrive in the coming years.

"The gardening club were thrilled to hear they had won £400 of vouchers and can't wait to use them in expeand the school's gardening equipment so that they do not have to share equipment so often" says Mrs Whitmarsh, Gardening Club Co-ordinator of the school.

The London Schools Environment Awards, open to all London's primary schools, were set up in 2003 to develop children’s sense of responsibility for their environment.

September 07 - Campaign launched in Streatham school garden

St Leonard’s C of E Primary School, Streatham played host to the launch of the RHS Campaign for School Gardening on 19th September 2007. The school has been working with the RHS for many years and was described by Ruth Taylor, Head of Education for the RHS, as ‘a shining example of the benefits that gardening in school can bring’.

The campaign is encouraging all primary schools throughout the UK to use gardening to teach the National Curriculum. It aims to have 4000 schools registered, and benefiting from RHS support, by the end of 2008.
