In the early morning light the blues of lupin, campanula, anchusa and iris all shine out against the orange flowered geum.

Low level shade planting of purple primulas and shuttlecock ferns nestle below naturally branched forms of yew and field maple.

Leading through the woodland area past the spikes of Cardiocrinum the eye is drawn to the sculptural piece set into the lime stone block wall of the loggia.

The soft forms of familiar garden plants such as euphorbia, fennel and lupins contrast with the formality of the clipped hornbeam hedge and the pieces yew topiary.

Well considered plant combinations are seen throughout the garden, here the green umbels of angelica sit behind spikes of bi-coloured lupins and beside the unusual Alyogyne cuneiformis with ghostly pale flowers.

The curved path continues through packed flower borders, with low foliage brushing at the visitors’ ankles.

An inviting view from the loggia leads the visitor to explore the woodland scene beyond.
