In this design, Elysium has remained true to its northern roots with a theme of terraced house back yards. This garden shows what can be achieved when the innovative use of materials is featured in a small, sometimes confined space.
Elysium believes that even the smallest yard can and should cause people to stop and stare! Even the most basic outdoor space has the potential to wow and surprise.
Small spaces should be simple and well-defined. The stone used for the flooring is continued up the wall, although instead of using mortar, the joints are exaggerated, and provide a convenient grid for climbers to work their way through. This creates a vertical version of the planting used between the paving on the floor. Key plants include Sambucus, Deschampsia and chamomile.
This is a small and functional courtyard garden, providing clean, easily maintained surfaces and plants, with a focal water feature and simple seating.
