In June, the Michelin-starred Gilpin Lodge Hotel opened six new garden suites, each with its own private garden. This spa garden is a replica of these gardens.

Designed by Ben Cunliffe, with horticultural design and expertise from Paul Stokes of Waterslack Garden Centre, the garden is intended to help guests de-stress in pampered peace, comfort and beauty. Imagine for a moment ... you return from a Lakeland trail, and in your suite a masseur gently massages your weary limbs in front of the fire. Step through the patio doors onto the decking and sink into a steaming, natural cedarwood hot tub. While the bubbles gently massage your skin, a glass ofchampagne massages your insides!

Nature provides a perfect performance from these waterside seats. The hot tubs are submerged within ponds, the water highlighting the natural colours of the stone and wood, while the sound of trickling water and the smell of fragrant water plants awaken the senses. Cascading terraces provide a superb display of plants. As the sun sets over the distant Lakeland views, natural light is gradually replaced by halogen, and the second act commences just before dinner!
