This garden is designed to demonstrate how traditional materials and techniques can be used to create a contemporary outdoor space.

It is planted to recreate the feel of the Lake District, with all the structures in the garden made from Lakeland slate. The back boundary of the garden includes a panel of slate framed to form a water cascade over a pool, which is surrounded by raised beds and includes a sculpture of a jumping trout. Key structural plants include silver birch cultivars to reflect the indigenous birch trees found in the Cumbrian landscape, and the rest of the planting echoes the forms, colours and textures of native Cumbrian flora.
