The Fforwm Tirlun back to back gardenGardening has always been a healthy activity, providing exercise and fresh air. Keeping fit often takes place in stuffy gyms or dull rooms, but exercising would be more enjoyable if people made use of their gardens.

The Plantasium is an outdoor gym in a space that would fit into any garden, even a roof garden. It contains exercise equipment such as a trampoline and pull-up bars, and space for step aerobics and Pilates. A fitness programme has been produced for exercising in this garden by Fitness Wales.

The plants have been used to integrate the fitness equipment into the garden, creating an aesthetically stimulating space.

The front of the garden is decked and can be used for relaxation as well as exercise. There are tubs of healthy herbs on the deck. The design of the back of the garden is based on the shape of a breaking bud. A water feature sends shadow patterns across the garden. Waving grasses and moveable ivy walls edge the design, while textured surrounds give a contemporary feel. Planting beds add colour and offer the opportunity to get some exercise by gardening.
