Jane Parker has designed a garden that shows the versatility of Welsh slate, contrasting the raw beauty of this natural product with modern, stylish design. It has the look of an outside dining room with a planted table.
The slate is teamed with metals and glass, and a water feature provides the trickling water that is ever-present in slate quarries.
The planting can withstand a harsh environment and includes self-seeders such as trees, shrubs, ferns and bog plants. To complete the banquet, a number of edible plants such as fennel, bilberries, thyme and wild strawberries also feature.
