Pupils at Oaklands School have complex learning difficulties ranging from moderate to severe, often with related emotional or behavioural problems. The school is located in mid-Cheshire, but responds to pupils from all over the local authority area.
The garden has been created and constructed as a cross-curricular project by young people aged 13 and 14. The youngsters decided to build the design in wooden boxes so that the garden could be transported easily to and from the show at Tatton Park. After the show, the garden will be used as part of our ongoing environmental and community work.
The garden uses only plants that can be found growing wild in Cheshire, and has been designed to encourage native wildlife. The artwork featured here reflects the beauty and diversity of Cheshire’s wildlife. Pupils from across the school worked to produce nest boxes for hedgehogs, birds and insects. The path, made from recycled materials, is suitable for wheelchair users.
