This garden has a tranquil, peaceful setting and a white planting theme. The colour theme exudes a sense of peace and calm, and highlights the little-known disease mesothelioma (asbestos cancer), drawing attention to its effects. Relaxing in the seating area under the scented arch, you feel that you have become part of the garden.
The black marble path creates the illusion of a tranquil stream, highlighted by a sea of white flowers that includes mixed annual perennial shrubs, bulbs, roses and herbaceous borders. The borders are symbolic of the white asbestos that clouds the lungs, encased in black wrought iron fencing representing the ribcage.
All proceeds from the garden are going to the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund. The garden has been designed as a tribute to the designer’s close friend’s mother, who recently died of mesothelioma.
