Galileo and Newton couldn't do it, but this famous son of Wakefield pioneered a clock that has steered sailors safely home from high seas. John 'Longitude' Harrison invented a clock that kept perfect time, impervious to the pitch and roll of the high seas, enabling sailors to fix their east-west longitude position on the globe.
